David Mack is the writer, artist and creator behind Kabuki, one of the most highly acclaimed independent comic series of all time. Somewhere near the nexus of Nabokov, pulp sci-fi, and Joseph Cornell’s collages, Kabuki pushes the boundaries of what is possible in an action-adventure comic. While putatively about the exploits of an assassin in future Japan, Mack’s book concerns itself less with the momentum of a plot than with memory, symbolism, spirituality, dreams and philosophy. His hall-of-mirrors story bends back in on itself as his titular character sheds and dons identity, attempting not to lose herself in the process. Mack traces and retraces her past, showing us the triumph and tragedy of memory, and the double-edged sword of reinvention.

Mack brings just as much artistry to the work he does for Marvel, having served as the writer and artist of several Daredevil titles among many other works. Rather than adapting his work to a standard superhero approach, he brings the Marvel universe into his world, utilizing objects, photographs and variety of art styles in his multi-layered artwork. One of the most uniquely inventive creators in comics, David Mack effortlessly bridges the worlds of independent and mainstream comics with the power of his inimitable voice.

The cold-blooded mastermind behind a comic book empire of his own savage device, Benjamin Marra is the defiant, grunting voice of the urban epics Gangsta Rap Posse and Night Business and the historical fantasia Lincoln Washington: Free Man. His diabolical creations have infiltrated the hallowed pages of The New York Times, Playboy, and Rolling Stone, and his world domination appears imminent. Marra’s books are a poisoned sugar rush, an adolescent fantasy, and a subversive experiment. He takes from both the trash and from the treasury, drawing with the surest of hands and the shiniest of muscles. His work is not on the cutting edge; it is in the actual cut. He will appear at the Locust Moon Comics Festival making proclamations, puffing on half-gnawed cigars, signing comics and challenging people to duels. May God have mercy on your souls.

James Comey is a prolific illustrator and cartoonist living in Philadelphia. His impressive range of work can be seen in a variety of outlets, from scandalous advertisements to intimate nostalgia, in major metropolitan publications, subway stations, Dark Horse anthologies, wrap around buses, and billboards from Portland, OR to Nashville, TN. Along with his outrageous catalogue of mini-comix, paintings, prints and grand murals, Comey sports a dandy mustache. A breaker of bones, James has decided it’s better to spill ink than blood and settled into work on American Monster Buffet, an upcoming comic book series with collaborator Chris Stevens, in which he will be drawing the Atlantic City seen only during dreams and on dark mornings.

We are happy to announce that we will be debuting a behemoth festival-exclusive print from James. Details to come.

Farel Dalrymple is the creator of Pop Gun War and a founding member of Meathaus, a comics collective whose ranks include Jeffro Kilpatrick, James Jean, Brandon Graham, Tomer Hanuka, Nate Powell, Tom Herpich, Becky Cloonan, and many more of the finest cartoonists and illustrators to emerge in the past decade. Farel’s work can be whimsical and heartbreaking, often at the same time, and his storytelling aches with the intimate details of our inner lives while playing out in fantastical, even absurd, environments. His upcoming book from First Second, The Wrenchies, is a 300-page sci-fi adventure and features Farel’s finest, most ambitious storytelling to date, with the hand-painted watercolors that are a hallmark of his style.

We are happy to announce that we will be debuting THREE festival-exclusive prints from Farel. Details to come shortly.
